Vanessa A. Albert grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Guam, before settling in San Diego, California. She was exposed to the criminal defense field at a young age, which, in part, fueled her desire to attend law school to pursue a career in criminal defense. Ms. Albert has interned and worked at a variety of criminal defense firms since 2004, learning from some of the most respected and well-regarded criminal defense attorneys in San Diego.
Ms. Albert earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of California, Irvine, where she double-majored in Criminology, Law & Society, as well as Psychology & Social Behavior. She then acquired her Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law, where she served as the Communications Chair for the school’s Criminal Law Association as well as a work-study volunteer for the California Innocence Project. She further expanded her advocacy experience by participating in California Western’s Trial Practice course, where her performance during witness examinations, openings, closings, and mock trials led to her recognition and receipt of an Academic Excellence Award in Trial Practice. Ms. Albert also participated in California Western’s Bail Project, where she served as a pre-arraignment representative for the San Diego Office of the Public Defender. She received specialized training in client interviewing techniques, ethics, and representation, which she utilized while attending weekly visits at the San Diego Central Jail to interview recent felony arrestees, whom she subsequently represented in court for their felony arraignments.
Ms. Albert is a member of the San Diego Criminal Defense Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the California Young Lawyers Association, and the San Diego County Bar Association. She is licensed to practice in all state courts in California, as well as the U.S. District Court, Southern District of California.
Ms. Albert has handled hundreds of misdemeanor cases; including a particularly large case load of driving under the influence of alcohol and drug cases. Similarly, her proven history has allowed her to exhibit her skills in the felony range of cases including drug cases, theft cases, charges involving sex offenses, and crimes of violence, including assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and murder.
