Lindsay Cortez is a passionate and dedicated criminal defense attorney committed to fighting for everyday people against the power of the government. She earned her Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in December 2024, where she distinguished herself both in and out of the classroom. She then went on the pass the California Bar Exam on her first try and became a licensed attorney in May 2025.
During law school, Lindsay interned at the San Diego Public Defender’s Office, gaining hands-on experience defending individuals charged with serious crimes. Following graduation and after taking the bar exam, she returned to the office as a Post Bar Law Clerk, further honing her litigation skills and deepening her commitment to public defense. She also externed at Seven’s Legal, a respected private criminal defense firm, where she worked on a wide array of complex cases. As a clinical student in the Innocence and Justice Clinic, Lindsay contributed to efforts to free wrongfully convicted individuals—an experience that deepened her resolve to fight for justice.
Lindsay’s academic achievements reflect her strong legal acumen. She earned Academic Excellence Awards in both Sports Law and Advanced Legal Research, and received an “A” in Trial Practice, demonstrating her skill and confidence in the courtroom setting.
Originally from Lewiston, Maine, Lindsay earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Thomas College in 2016. That same year, she joined the United States Marine Corps, where she served honorably until 2020. Stationed at MCAS Miramar, she was part of a helicopter squadron, bringing discipline, leadership, and a deep sense of service that now informs her legal practice.
At California Western, Lindsay held leadership roles as Secretary of the Criminal Law Association and Treasurer of the Military Veterans’ Legal Society, further underscoring her commitment to public service and advocacy.
